Have you heard about microplastic?
Have you heard about microplastic?
It’s plastic that flowed into the sea and has been broken down by ultraviolet rays and waves, resulting in smaller pieces of plastic in the sea and on our beaches.

Fish and plankton accidentally swallow it and, as a result, dangerous ingredients contained in the plastic enter the fish and we eventually eat it ourselves.
When you go to the beach, you’ll find a huge amount of plastic debris scattered around.

We usually give up trying to remove it all because the amount of plastic is too much for us.
I started this project because I want to remove microplastic on our beaches.
I belong to a group called “Shonan Clean Aid Forum,” which is a beach cleanup activity in Shonan, Japan.

Removing all the microplastic from a whole beach may not be possible but if we try to clean 1m square at a time, we can do it! 1m square is a very small area, but we will gradually clean an entire beach if we do this together.
We will aim to remove 10000 pieces (10000m2) by uniting everyone’s strength with 1 square meter at a time. That’s less than a baseball field.
Even if we rid one beach of all the plastic, unfortunately other beaches will still be littered with plastic.
But please don‘t give up. I’m sure that the number of people who resonate with our aim will increase if we work together and spread the word.
Would you recommend this project for us?

Find a 1m square on the beach, remove the micro plastic in it using a colander, etc.
“I went to the beach near my daughter and took 3 pieces!”
“I can’t swim in the sea, but I wanted to see it, so I went to the beach and I removed 1 piece!”
Please share these thoughts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. At the end of the post please use the hashtag “#10000pieces project”. Please join this project with us.
If lots of people participate in this project, 10,000 pieces of plastic will grow to 100,000 pieces and then into a million pieces. I am very optimistic that we can do it.

Let‘s leave a beautiful sea for our children. The beach should be full of sand and shells, not plastic.
